Travel to Bulgaria

We’ve got. The trip of 1100 km took 19 hours, we were really tired.)
It took about couple of hours in total on the borders, 13 hours on the road (speed mode was kept everywhere), and the rest was spent on search, in fact, that the road))) We were just continually lost :) With a navigator, Google maps and just print out the map and still with clear intervals the question, “I do not understand where we are?” appeared.

Moldova

Customs Moldova Romania

In Moldova we were lost just couples of times and not for a long time. But in Romania it happened in each 10-20 km.

Romania generally left solely negative emotions. It all started with the fact that at the border we were demanded a “gift” for the fact that we had cigarettes more than two packs, to my offer to throw in the trash, the customs officer refused, saying go to the Moldovan border and throw out there. Then it all went in the same vein, it is not informative signs, and even their full absence, reliable was just ask for directions, people are normal, showed. We even met countryman from Kherson, showing a correct and easier way.

Reaching Bulgaria we were relieved, everything is clear, perfect quality of road surface. Driving pleasure to the occasion.

In fact, so long turned from what I originally chose wrong road. I, for some unknown reason, totally thought that areas colored green were the forest :)

See Nikolaev- PLovdiv at the bigger map

Yes, the forest is there, but it is a forest in the mountains! :) Actually by the end, driving 900 km, we doubled up in the mountains and descended. According to the complexity rout as the Ai-Petri, no less, just up the road better and a little wider. Another very good thing is that it was dark and I was on the presence of light oncoming headlights understood, can cut corners.

Yes, definitely, without a co-driver, we would have spent the night somewhere and got to the destination the next day.

The way back will go like this, there is everywhere straight.

What is interesting, at 2 am, finally met George and Kate we just almost lost consciousness from exhaustion, we got second wind, lay down to sleep at the beginning of the fifth :)

The history of Ciprus and its architecture.

The ancient and rich history of Cyprus has affected the architecture and among modern buildings the true diamonds can be found. On the island there are remains of settlements since the Neolithic, Bronze Age tombs, ruins of ancient buildings (including the Byzantine basilica), medieval castles, churches and monasteries. Mosques and caravansarai reminiscent of the times of Ottoman rule, the British left buildings in colonial style. Today, villagers in the mountainous areas of the island, still live in old stone villas in Cyprus.
Ancient architecture.
The Greeks, Phoenicians, Romans and Byzantines, who ruled Cyprus, left behind numerous buildings. Archaeologists have found the city of Kourion, Amathus, Kition, Solo, Salamis and Paphos with its temples, theaters, basilicas, palaces and terms. Among the ancient ruins the fragments of old walls, sports facilities and ancient Cyprus villas can be found. Some ancient Roman amphitheater are still used for various performances and festivals.

Palestra at Salamis is surrounded by the colonnade and statues. Here the training of athletes and sporting events took place.
Medieval architecture.
For 300 years, when the Crusaders and Lusignan ruled Cyprus, many churches, including the rich cathedrals in Famagusta and Nicosia were built. Charming churches, chapel, the Gothic cloisters and castles appeared. Venetians which prevailed on the island (above 80 years), created a gorgeous ring of defensive walls around Nicosia and Famagusta, whose power defeated attack of the Ottoman Empire armies for almost a year.

Angeloctisti Church in Kity is one of many churches, which are hidden behind the walls of the magnificent Byzantine mosaics and amazing frescoes.

Bellapais, with the ruins of Gothic abbey, attracts tourists with its impressive architecture. Every spring the International Music Festival is held.

Muslim architecture.
When the army of Selim II occupied Cyprus, new buildings, including Turkish mosques (often minarets were attach to the Gothic cathedrals), Turkish bath, caravansarais and covered markets.
Buyuk Han in North Nicosia is an example of the caravansarai of the Ottoman Empire, with prayer hall in the yard.

Hala Sultan Tekke is the holiest place for Muslims all over Cyprus. It consist of the mosque and the mausoleum with Umm Haram tomb- Mohammed’s aunt.

Colonial Period
British rule in the XVII-XIX centuries was marked by the advent of colonial-style architecture in churches, administrative and public buildings. Representatives of the British administration were fans of the Greek classical style. On their orders, projects and their funds many buildings in the neoclassical style were created.

The school of Faneromeni in South Nicosia is in the neoclassical style.
In1852, when it was founded, it was understood that in this way students would be linked to their ancient Greek roots.

The Museum of Piridis Foundation in Larnaca is a typical example of colonial architecture, with shaded balconies, on the thin, graceful pillars.
Modern Architecture
After gaining independence in Cyprus in 1960, the architecture of public buildings such as city hall, offices, banks and hotels, has become modern and functional. For the most part these buildings were built in Limassol, which has become an international business center of the island. However, most modern buildings are of no architectural value.

Modern architecture is represented by the Limassol office buildings of glass and concrete, concentrated in the eastern business district of the city.
Traditional Houses

For centuries, villas in Cyprus, especially in its mountainous areas, were built of stone, which allowed them to keep cool in summer and warm in winter. Although some new buildings mimic the traditional style, most of them are constructed of cinder blocks and concrete.

Slopeflying in Stryn

Norwegian Jokke Sommer is fond of the most dangerous kind of wingsuit flight, known as a close flight. The supporter of extremal sports jumps from the picturesque mountains to plane along the slope at a critical distance from the trees, waterfalls and all sorts of obstacles. The wingsuiter added a new graph in the personal list of extreme achievements. Ekke beared up the slope, located near the town of Stryn in Norway.

The pictures of Greenland in summer.

Photographer James Balog from National Geographic has provided interesting pictures of Greenland, which were made in the summer. Greenland  is the largest island on the planet, which is covered by ice. The island belongs to Denmark. Nuuk City is one of the largest cities in Greenland, its population is no more than 15 thousand people. Photos made in an interesting ways. The cameras are installed in specific locations and are charged by solar energy. Cameras are water- and windproof. In one year, each of the 35 installed  cameras make up to 12 000 images, which allows the scientists to monitor the evolution of melting ice.

The photographer descends into a round hole, which has been created inthe ice.

During the melting of ice, water flows into a very deep natural well.

Here is one of the canyons of Greenland, which appeared as a result of melting ice. The ice thickness is sometimes up to 700 meters.

50-meter canyon.

The black spot you see in the picture is a mixture of dust, emissions from power plants and diesel engines. Because of these spots melting is much faster.

Such air bubbles in the ice, are the product of bacteria activity.

The dusty snow that can be seen in this photo, always lies near the well. The snow has such a color because of the water, which washes the dust.

The photograph descends into the well with snow melt water.
